The Online Fashion Newspaper Is Live — Edition No. 1

Edition No. 1  ✦  From the Editor

What To Wear Post is now publishing as an online fashion newspaper. Here is what that means, what you can expect from it, and why it exists at all.

There is a question almost everyone asks, quietly, most mornings of their lives. It gets asked in front of a wardrobe with the door open. It gets asked again three weeks before a wedding, the night before an interview, and roughly an hour before a first date.

What should I wear?

It sounds like a small question. It isn't. Getting dressed is one of the few decisions you make every single day, in public, with consequences you can feel in the room. Turn up in the wrong thing and you spend the evening managing it rather than enjoying it. Turn up in the right thing and you forget about your clothes entirely — which is, in the end, the whole point.

Most fashion coverage doesn't actually answer that question. It shows you a runway you cannot buy, or a trend list that will be irrelevant by November, or a £900 coat presented as a sensible basic. It is inspiring, occasionally. It is rarely useful on a Tuesday.

What To Wear Post is built the other way round. It starts with the occasion, the invitation, the dress code you have been handed — and works backwards to a real outfit, at a real price, that you can actually get hold of this week.

Fashion is more than clothing. It is communication, confidence, identity and self-expression.

What you can expect

Six recurring columns, running on rotation. They are designed to be looked up as much as read.

What Should I Wear To…?  —  The signature column. One occasion, answered completely: the dress code, the outfit, the shoes, the thing everyone gets wrong.

The Luxury Look for Less  —  A designer look, rebuilt on a real budget and styled identically. Same silhouette, a fraction of the price.

Runway to Reality  —  The season's biggest trends, translated into clothes you would genuinely leave the house in.

Register Office to Black Tie  —  The full formality scale, decoded. Because “lounge suit” on an invitation should not require a search engine.

Dressed Right  —  Short, practical styling rules. The kind of thing you read once and use for years.

The Weekly Edit  —  Friday’s newsletter. The week’s guides in one email, with nothing padded out to fill space.

The promise

Every recommendation here is chosen because it works, not because it pays. Where a link earns a commission, that is disclosed plainly and it costs you nothing. Prices and stock are checked before publication, and the high street is treated with exactly as much seriousness as the runway.

You will not be told that a £400 blazer is a wardrobe essential. You will be told which £40 one holds its shape, and what to look for on the label.

Starting this week

Wedding season, properly handled. Tomorrow: five guest looks, from register office to black tie, one for every level of formality. On Wednesday: the wedding guest dress-code decoder, which translates every phrase you are likely to find on an invitation into an outfit you can actually put together.

The Weekly Edit

One email, every Friday. The week’s guides, edited down.

No spam, no filler — just what to wear, and where to find it.

One last thing. This newspaper works best as a conversation. If there is an occasion you are dreading, a dress code you cannot decipher, or a designer piece you want found for less — say so in the comments. Those questions become the guides.

Welcome to What To Wear Post. Dressed right, every single time.

Plaid Trend 2025: 5 Key Fashion Aspects & Styling Tips

5 Key Aspects of the 2025 Plaid Trend and How to Style It

Plaid But Make It HOT 🔥

Plaid is back in full swing for 2025, and it’s not just your cozy winter print anymore—it’s a high-fashion powerhouse redefining wardrobes across all seasons.

From bold checks to subtle tartans, designers are refreshing plaid with modern twists that feel both nostalgic and forward-looking.

If you’re ready to embrace this timeless yet trending pattern, here are five key aspects of the 2025 plaid trend—plus styling tips to nail the look.

📌 Versatile Styling:
Plaid can be styled for a sophisticated, polished look, or for a more laid-back, effortless vibe.

1. Maximalist Colour Palettes

This year, plaid isn’t playing it safe with neutrals. Instead, designers are rolling out bold, clashing colors like electric blues, fiery reds, neon greens, and sunny yellows. Think punk-rock meets digital futurism.

How to style it: Balance your statement plaid piece with neutral basics.

For example, pair a neon plaid skirt with a simple white tee and sleek ankle boots. If you’re feeling daring, try mixing two plaid colourways for a runway-ready vibe.

2. Oversized Silhouettes

2025 is the year of comfort and drama, and oversized plaid jackets, blazers, and wide-leg trousers are leading the charge. These larger-than-life silhouettes give off an effortlessly chic, borrowed-from-the-runway appeal.

How to style it: Cinch your oversized plaid blazer with a belt to highlight your waistline, or let it hang loose for that relaxed, off-duty model look.
Add sleek sneakers or chunky boots for a streetwear twist.

3. Plaid Layering Mastery

Layering plaid on plaid is no longer a faux pas—it’s fashion gospel. From check-on-check suits to mismatched plaid scarves thrown over plaid coats, this trend thrives on texture and dimension.

How to style it: Start small with complementary plaids in the same colour family, like a navy plaid skirt with a grey plaid blazer

Feeling adventurous? Go bold with clashing plaids in different sizes—micro-checks against oversized tartans.

Plaid isn’t reserved for heavy winter fabrics anymore. 2025 brings breezy, sheer plaid dresses, skirts, and tops perfect for transitional weather and warm seasons. It’s plaid reimagined for fluidity and movement.

How to style it: Pair a sheer plaid blouse with a bralette or sleek tank for a playful edge.

For the evening, pair a sheer plaid maxi dress with strappy heels and statement earrings.

If you prefer the elegant and reserved way, the Saint Laurent plaid silk blouse will not disappoint. Pair with the Gucci interlocking G clip-on earrings, and complete it with the Gucci Jackie 1961 shoulder bag.

Not ready to go head-to-toe plaid? Accessories are your best friend. From plaid handbags to hats, scarves, and even boots, these statement add-ons instantly elevate a simple outfit.

How to style it: Add a plaid crossbody bag to an all-black ensemble or tie a plaid scarf around your neck to freshen up a neutral coat.

A pair of plaid loafers can also turn your everyday jeans-and-tee outfit into a style statement.
